Book Month 2016

Posted by willkay on March 27, 2016

As usual, during Book Month the students select a book, write a script, rehearse, and then film their efforts. This year there were three different Book Trailers from 6B.

We Made Trailers

Posted by willkay on April 12, 2015

March is Book Month in the sixth grade. We do several different “book related” activities, including: Book Trailers.

The students pick a book, pick scenes from the book, write a script, think about camera angles, and then perform. In 6B, this year, Mrs Kay gave up the camera and allowed the students to film the trailers themselves.

Here are the finished products, enjoy:

The Maze Runner

War of The Worlds

The Invisible Man

The Book of Lost Things

Merry Christmas, One And All!

Posted by willkay on December 21, 2013

Every year, my elder brother (seven years, if you are asking) would play the same trick on my younger brother (two years, if you were asking) and me. As we arrived home, after attending Midnight Mass, he would wake us up by shouting:

“I don’t care what your name is Fatso! Get those reindeer off the roof!”

Because we were nine and seven, we were normally asleep in the car, after the short journey back from church. His shouting would wake us – and scare us! Had my brother really seen Father Christmas on the roof with his reindeer? Did he not know who he was? Did he just call Father Christmas, “Fatso”? DID HE TELL HIM TO GO?!?!?!????

Every year! Every year until I was 12, and then he left home. Good times!

Anyhoo, here’s the sixth grade singing a song:

A Christmas Carrot

Posted by willkay on December 15, 2013

One of my students, Carmina, wrote a fantastic Book Report about David Copperfield. I was telling my class this, and mentioned the author:

“Charles Dickens. You know, the author of A Christmas Carol. You’ve heard of A Christmas Carol, haven’t you?”

“What’s A Christmas Carrot?” asked Victor.

And from there the story grew. What started as a daft idea in the classroom, led to a weekend sat at the keyboard, finished with a Christmas presentation to the parents. I am sure that someone (somewhere) has a video of the final performance – and can I say, the final performance was excellent -, and if I can get my hands on a copy I will try to load that up to YouTube. However, I do have a copy of the final rehearsal.

So, Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, can I proudly present:

Act One

Act Two

Act Three

The Pizza Year

Posted by willkay on December 15, 2013

Normally I am asked (or Mrs. Kay is asked) to “make a slideshow” at the end of the academic year. This means that I (normally) have over four hundred pictures – having collected pictures throughout the year. However, this year I was asked to make a slideshow for Christmas. Going through my pictures, it appears that I have only taken out my camera when there has been pizza involved!

Nations of The World

Posted by willkay on November 14, 2013

One of Mrs. Kay’s favourite cartoons is Animaniacs. So, imagine her delight when Alexis tried to take on Wakko’s Nations of The World song.

And if you want to compare:
