this is Halloween, Halloween, Halloween

Posted by willkay on October 31, 2011

We lined up in the playground:

We waited for the parade:

We had a maths lesson:

I  collected in the numbers from The Reading Logs:

  • 927 pages: Gerry

  • 630 pages: Arturo

  • 567 pages: Maria Rita

  • 420 pages: Diana

  • 388 pages: Aleksei

  • 340 pages: Manuel

There were only four students who got into The 200+ Club [but one of those four was Naomi]. It was a reduced number this week due to exams and a failure on the behalf of five students to bring in their Reading Logs.

Today has been an incredibly long day. I am not a great fan of students *not* in uniform. They feel they are no longer in a “school situation”. They show no desire to learn, no interest in doing anything, and no ability to speak English. I have spent the day asking  and asking for students to “please speak English” and have mostly gone ignored. Ah well. Tomorrow is another day. Except tomorrow promises to be an even longer day.

Everyone (EVERYONE) is in school tomorrow. Those of us going on the field trip will be in at 7am. The rest at the normal time. Those of us on the field trip need to be wearing gala uniform. No cameras, no electronics. maria will be going and she will take loads of pictures, which I will upload to my picture account. If (IF) you bring any money (and you don’t have to), then you (YOU) are responsible for it. We will go to the shop for 30 minutes (so long as I don’t get asked and asked and asked).

I feel tired already.

Day 18 out of 36

You know, I can’t help but think that there is something going on behind me. I’ll just smile for the camera. Oh, and I’ll post this video. Give it 46 seconds to get started, and then just sit back and be amazed. Now, if only I could teach this! Or do this! Or…did someone just say, “Brrrraaaaaaaaiiiiiiinnnnnssssssss!”????

Day 17 out of 36

I’m in school. The day started with a meeting at 7am. The rest of the teachers then left to go on a SEP course. I was left, alone in my classroom. I have marked the science exams. I have planned lessons for the next week. I have spent time on the aquarium’s website. I am just about to write the geography exam.

busy, busy, busy

Posted by willkay on October 27, 2011

This has been a really hard week. I seem to have had things to do, places to go, people to meet, and exams to teach. All this on top of the usual school week. I am desperately trying to claw back some “me time“. Actually, I am desperately trying to claw back some “us time“. In other words, all you are getting today is another bullet point post.

  • computer lesson
  • dance rehearsal for Thriller
  • science exam
  • return the English exam
  • maths lesson
  • Spanish lesson
  • PE
  • Wallace and Gromit

I took some photos during the PE Lesson, which you can find here. And a video, which looks like:

No classes tomorrow. I, though, will be in school tomorrow – a whole half hour earlier!! Yes, the teachers have to be in school at 7am tomorrow for a meeting, and then we are off on our course. Don’t forget your costumes for Monday (hopefully food related). There will be a parade at 8am to which the parent’s are invited to come watch.

  • Costume: food related
  • Reading Log: signed
  • Read: 20 minutes each day

on a school night

Posted by willkay on October 26, 2011

It’s W*dnesd*y, which means that it is half price night at the cinema. Being the romantic person that I am, I took maria to the cinema tonight! Plus, I also took her out for a meal. Yes, I know! Going out on a school night, how daring. However, it is now 8:40pm and we are back home. So, maybe not so daring at all. But this does mean you are getting a very reduced blog post because…well, just accept it! Santos are still playing America and i don’t have time for this.

  • English exam
  • story about November 5th
  • Maths lesson – introduction to percent
  • time to study for History exam
  • History exam
  • Recess – do you know, there are some children who do not have lunch!
  • Spanish lesson
  • Music lesson
  • Science exam review

Sorry, I can’t recommend The Way Back (or Camino a la Libertad). It’s not bad, but it isn’t that good.

  • Science: exam
  • Laptops: charged
  • Read: 20 minutes each day
  • Book: to read for when you finish your exam
